Michelle Blackburn Campaign Press Release: “I’m Running for Governor”

Cimarron local Michelle Blackburn has officially announced that she is running for Kansas Governor, joining the race as a member of the Sunflower Party. As a born and raised Kansan, Blackburn’s story reflects the very best of Kansas- hard work, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to community. Blackburn’s representatives will speak about this announcement at the University of Kansas, her alma mater, on Wednesday the 25th.

 “Government should be accessible, accountable, and focused on serving the people. My goal is to start a new era of leadership grounded in real-world experience and a deep understanding of the communities that make Kansas strong. I know the challenges facing rural areas because I have lived them. From underfunded schools, to decreased access to water for our farmers, to having to drive hours for a doctor’s appointment, I have felt the consequences of making decisions without listening to the voices of everyday Kansans. These issues are possible to solve, but they require leaders who work together, think long-term, and put Kansans first”. 

  Blackburn’s career reflects that commitment. Through her work with Kansas Legal Services, she’s stood alongside everyday Kansans navigating some of life’s toughest challenges. Between families struggling to make ends meet, individuals fighting to keep a roof over their heads, and workers seeking fairness and dignity, Blackburn’s experiences have given her not just insight, but also urgency. Far too many Kansans feel unheard, overlooked, and left behind by the decisions currently being made in Topeka.

This campaign is about building a government that works for the people, and is accessible, accountable, and grounded in real-life experience. It’s about leadership that listens before it acts, and that understands the unique challenges facing every corner of our state. understand that our land is one of our greatest responsibilities. As stewards of Kansas’s farms, prairies, and communities, we must protect and sustain our natural resources for future generations. Blackburn recognizes that climate change is real and believes Kansas can lead with innovation, using technology and ingenuity to meet this challenge while strengthening our economy.

All of our policies will be guided by one principle: putting Kansans first. Blackburn supports an all-of-the-above approach that ensures energy remains affordable and reliable while opening the door for innovation. By encouraging the development of alternative energy alongside traditional industries like oil and gas, Kansas can expand opportunity, foster entrepreneurship, and create a more competitive energy market that lowers costs for consumers, without placing unnecessary burden on taxpayers.

Today marks the beginning of a new chapter. One rooted in service, guided by community, and driven by the belief that Kansas’s best days are still ahead.
